Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate Program

Is your dishwasher on its last leg? Are you just keeping your fingers crossed hoping that your old refrigerator will make it through one more summer? Well, there is good news for those Texas residents who are in the market for a new appliance. Texas is tapping into $23.3 million of the nearly $300 million in federal stimulus funding to offer a rebate program this spring to help residents replace older, inefficient models with newer, more energy efficient models.

The Texas Trade Up Appliance Rebate program officially begins on April 5, 2010, at 7 a.m. CT when rebate reservations will be accepted online through www.TexasPowerfulSmart.org or via phone toll-free at 1-877-780-3039. Mail in rebates will apply to eligible appliances purchased between April 16 and April 25th. Consumers will be able to register for the rebate online or by calling the toll free number starting April 5th. Once the allotted rebates have been reserved, consumers will be able to continue to sign up for a waiting list to request rebates.

Some appliances will have a flat rebate amount. Those appliances include room air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers. Rebates on other appliances such as clothes washers, central air conditioners, dishwashers, heat pumps and water heaters will vary depending upon the appliance type and the energy efficiency of the model. This list will give you an idea of the types of appliances and the amounts of the rebates:

• Refrigerators - $240

• Freezers - $180

• Room air conditioners - $45

• Clothes washers - $150 or $180

• Dishwashers - $110 or $140

• Central air conditioners - $600, $800 or $1,000

• Heat pumps - $1,200 to $1,600

An additional $75 will be rebated to those consumers who recycle their old appliances. There are limits to the number of rebates per household…two appliance rebates and two recycle rebates. For more details or to sign up for email updates you can go to the SECO Website.
