No Flood Insurance Yet Again

Our trusted lawmakers have done it again.  As a matter of fact, this is the third time they've done it to us in recent months.  The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) was allowed to once again expire.  This happened on May 31st and has not yet been renewed.  While lawmakers agree that it should be extended, they seem to be having a hard time agreeing on how this should happen.

At this time we are all left holding the bag, our breath, and carefully watching the Gulf of Mexico.  As much as it rains in Southest Texas (Katy and Houston get more rain in a day than some areas get all summer) it is never a good time to have flood insurance lapse, but the timing of this lapse could not be worse.  Experts are predicting a record breaking hurricane season and it is not uncommon for us to see a tropical system roll through the area in June.

If you are upset about this matter please contact your representatives and let them know you want this matter resolved.  The National Association of REALTORS® is staying on top of this issue, and we'll keep you informed on any changes.  In the meantime...try to stay dry!
