Katy ISD Board Approves Rezoning and VEO

In a vote held on Monday evening, the Katy ISD Board of Trustees approved a plan to allow families impacted by the attendance boundry modification a one-time Volunteer Enrollment Option (VEO).  This option will allow students currently enrolled in high school to choose to remain at their current school or to voluntarily move to the school to which they have been zoned.

Families who wish to apply for the VEO must do so between March 1 and March 12.  The district will hold a VEO informational meeting for those interested on Monday, March 1, at 6:30 p.m. in room 1200 at the Katy ISD Education Support Center, located at 6301 S. Stadium Lane.  If you are interested in attending you are encouraged to RSVP online. Students who are currently enrolled in high school are gradfathered to remain at the school they currently attend.  No action is required if they wish to remain at that school.  Katy ISD also recognizes the importance of family involvement in the education process, and has allowed for younger siblings of current high school students to also be grandfathered, providing that the younger sibling and the current high school student will both be in high school at the same time.  Additional information can be obtained from the sibling transfer web page.

While this decision has been a difficult one, I believe that the Board of Trustees, the many district employees and volunteers, and the parents and families of the wonderful community of Katy should all be commended for their involvement and dedicaton during this process.  While it was not an easy task, the decisions made allow Katy to continue to provide the best education possible for students well into the future while addressing the concerns of students currently attending our fine schools.
