Don't let termites feast on your Katy/Houston real estate!
I just wanted to give everyone an early heads up. Usually around the end of February or the beginning of March, or the first warm spell of the year people may start seeing termite swarmers flying around. Typically people will see them flying around trees or in flower beds. If this is the case don't be alarmed. This is normal for early spring weather. The time to get alarmed is when you see them flying or crawling inside your house
The purposes of termite swarmers, in a nutshell, are to fly out of the ground into another part of the ground and mate with other swarmers. This forms the new subterranean termite colonies. It is very common and happens every year. The good thing about swarming season is that homeowners are made aware they have termites in their house. You will wake up one morning and find about 200 dead swarmers in a bathroom or living room area. The bad thing about swarming season is it means you have termites in your house and need to get it treated soon.
If anyone ever sees these little winged insects, leave them alone and call a professional pest control company to inspect and give you options. A homeowner always has options when it comes to having your house treated for termites.
For the proactive homeowners, have a professional come out now (most will do it for free) and inspect your home before swarmers appear. You may be surprised with what they will find. I know with my company we find new ways and new areas that termites find their way into a house every day. If I ever get a chance to personally speak with my readers or new customers, remind me to tell you some interesting stories that I have run across. Or I may just write some down on my next blog. Stay tuned.
Hope this helps!!
